Community

Eureka City Schools serves the greater Eureka area with four elementary schools, two middle schools, one comprehensive high school, and one alternative high school. The community has a population of approximately 45,000 residents living in both incorporated and unincorporated areas. The student body is culturally diverse with a population that is 2% African American, 4% American Indian, 11% Asian, 19% Hispanic/Latino, 1.6% Pacific Islander, and 54% White.

School

Eureka High School is the largest comprehensive high school on the North Coast, enrolling 1170 students in grades 9 through 12 with a senior class of 240. The school opened in 1896. The faculty is comprised of 55 teachers, 3 counselors, 2 school psychologist, and 3 administrators. Eureka High is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and holds membership in the Association of California School Administrators, California Federation of High School Counselors, and the California Counseling Association. Eureka High has a comprehensive AVID program and is a nationally recognized Service Learning School.

Curriculum

The academic program is organized in a traditional six period day, with most students taking six classes, and with many college bound students taking seven classes each day.

AP courses are offered in Biology, Environmental Science, Calculus, Statistics, English Literature, English Composition, Government, U.S. History, World History, Music Theory, and Spanish. AP is an open enrollment program. Honors classes are offered in Sophomore English, Math Analysis, Chemistry, Advanced Agri Science, and German.

Eureka High School offers Career Pathways composed of Programs of Study aligned with California's Industry Sectors. Each Program of Study is a multi-year sequence of academic and technical courses that provide students with a rigorous academic curriculum that integrates academic and career skills, culminating with a senior project or internship. Eureka High School offers technical education dual enrollment classes with College of the Redwoods.

AGPA is computed using the above quality points. Beginning with the ninth grade, all subjects, except P.E., non UC/CSU transferable college transfer courses, peer tutor, and school service, are included in the computation. AGPA minimum of 230 credits is required for graduation. AP, Honors, and concurrent UC/CSU transferable college courses are weighted. Grades are recorded on the transcripts and GPA is computed in January and June.

Ranking

Class Ranking is based on AGPA as calculated above beginning in grade 9 through first semester of grade 12.
