Dear Eureka High Families,

On behalf of the entire Eureka High staff, I would like to welcome you to the 2019-20 school year. The beginning of the school year is an exciting time for students and our staff is looking forward to working with each family. Our mission statement is:

To provide our students a relevant, engaging, and comprehensive education, empowering all to be college and/or career ready global citizens.

The bell schedules for secondary schools have been adjusted by 10 minutes. We will continue with early out Monday; teachers will be collaborating to better serve students. School starts at 8:30 a.m. and students will be released at 2:27 p.m. every Monday. Our regular schedule Tuesday through Friday will be an 8:30 a.m. start time and dismissal at 3:32 p.m. More information is available on the school website under the bell schedule link.

Eureka High School has a proud tradition of academic excellence, coupled with many opportunities for creativity, exploration and discovery. Eureka High will be offering several Career and Technical Education (CTE) classes that are dual enrolled with College of the Redwoods. EHS also offers a wide variety of visual and performing arts classes, CTE pathways in multiple fields, Advanced Placement and honors courses, and service learning and leadership classes. We are the most comprehensive high school on the North Coast.

Enclosed are several important forms: the emergency card, application for free and reduced meals, Annual Notice, health inventory and 506 form for Native American students. Please return all YELLOW forms as soon as possible. Under the new funding formula for schools, an accurate free and reduced meal count is extremely important. If your student qualifies and attends Eureka High School you will need to complete a meal application form. If you received a letter in the mail from food services prior to the start of the school year, you do not need to take any further action for the free and reduced meal application. Supplemental school funds are allocated based on the number of eligible students, along with eligibility for grants and fee waivers for SAT/ACT/AP testing. Information is confidential and students can take advantage of our wonderful cafeteria.

If you would like to be involved at Eureka High, please consider volunteering or attending PTA, Athletic Booster, Music Booster, Ag Booster or English Learner Committee meetings. Dates and times are listed on our website activities calendar. I encourage you to fill out a volunteer packet, which is available on the District website. If you will be driving for field trips, extracurricular activities or athletics, you must complete the volunteer packet and insurance form. Your involvement makes a tremendous, positive difference for students and our school.

As the Eureka High Loggers, we also have a full slate of athletic events. Homecoming week will be October 14 -19th culminating with multiple sports hosting home games on Saturday, Oct. 19th.

I look forward to meeting you and working with your student! Please do not hesitate to stop by, email me at johnsonj@eurekacityschools.org, or call 441-2508.

With kind regards,

Jennifer Johnson
